Gifts in the Soil
a mixtape about
land, legacy, and liberation.
The land has always given freely:
shelter, beauty, breath…
… all without a grant application.
These episodes ask what it means to return the gift, to be in true kinship with land and those who’ve always known how to listen—even as extraction accelerates and climate collapse looms.
“…to not take more from the Earth than we need to not engage in extraction, but to engage in regeneration.”
Nick Tilsen
NDN Collective
1. Kinship Is a Practice.
How do you relate to the land beneath your feet? As kin—or as commodity? Who shaped that view? Who could help reshape it?
2. Hoarding Isn’t Always Obvious.
You may not hold a deed—but how does your institution benefit from landholding, endowments, extractive portfolios, or real estate deals? What would it take to name that?
3. Make the Return Personal.
What does Landback mean to you—not in theory, but in practice? Does it unsettle you? Excite you? Where does that feeling live in your body? What can you give up, give back, or give over…today?

F U N D I N G
a mixtape about
risk, repair, and the courage to redistribute.
You’re managing stolen wealth inside a system that was never meant to change.
These episodes name the contradiction, and push you toward choices that align your giving with your values, not your comfort.
“I think that deep down, a lot of progressive-leaning funders still don't really want the system to change because it creates
an existential threat to them.”

1. Trace the Source
Where did your institution’s wealth come from? What has it funded—intentionally or not—while sitting in your investment account? What changes if you answer that without softening, out loud, and in public?
2. Name the Gatekeeping.
Where does your process replicate the very systems you say you’re trying to disrupt? Whose time are you wasting? Whose wisdom are you doubting? Who built the hoops—and who are they keeping out?
3. Own Your Position.
Which of your values actually show up in your work? It’s not just the check. It’s your access. Your platform. Your appetite for risk. Rather than a bank, how are you a builder?
Stay Human
M O V E M E N T
a mixtape about
mutual aid, radical care, and collective action beyond institutions
This mixtape is for the ones moving money by day and marching by night.
These episodes trace the heart of organizing back to where it’s always lived: in mutual care, creative resistance, and people showing up for one another, with or without institutional permission.
“…you open this space for love, for literally seeing people where they are, and doing everything in your power to walk alongside that person.”
Sara Lomelin
Philanthropy Together
1. Listen and Locate Yourself.
When was the last time you followed a movement leader’s direction—without editing, centering, or waiting for consensus? Who are you learning from? Who are you deferring to?
2. Choose Your Alignment.
Is philanthropy going to outlive its own critique? Will you evolve with this moment? How will you stop the perpetuation of harm? What would it take to organize toward liberation?
3. Invest Beyond the Cash.
Where are you putting your time, talent, testimony, and ties? Who benefits from your off-hours effort, your platform, your personal endorsements?
Break the System
P O W E R
a mixtape about
capitalism, complicity, and
calling bullsh*t on business as usual
Philanthropy wasn’t built to be radical.
It was built to preserve wealth.
These episodes pull back the curtain on how the system protects itself—and what it takes to stop playing along.
“You can do 5% of your grantmaking to support that.
But if the rest of your portfolio is investing in
Exxon and BP, we've got a problem.”
Nairuti Shastry
The Democracy Collab.
1. Clock the Complicity.
Where does capitalism live in your day-to-day? White supremacy in your decision trees? Patriarchy in your approval process? Who still gets to say what’s “strategic”? Whose comfort costs the most?
2. Follow the Roots.
Where did your wealth come from, and what is it doing while it waits? What profits are being laundered through social good? From what parts of the story are you abdicating responsibility?
3. Fight Fire with Frame.
Who shapes the stories your field believes? Are your narratives building power? How can artists and culture-bearers rewire the myths you've inherited?
